Playing with Daddy

Just some random pictures of the girls enjoying the weather with Daddy!

Taking Daddy for a walk

Supervising.  In Spiderman underpants.  With no pants.  Whatever.

Circus, circus!

This year we decided to take the girls to the Shriner's Circus at the Family Arena.  We had a great time!  The girls didn't make it through the whole thing, but we had fun watching what we did.  I was able to get a few pictures, but I started to get into as much as the girls.  It was my first circus, too.  The elephants were my favorite part which is why I didn't get a picture!  They were too cool to watch to get my camera out and fiddle with the settings.  When the lights went down and the ring master took the center ring, I got a little teary watching the girls' excitement.  I love making memories like these!

Waiting for the show to begin.

Tigers!

The lion tamer.  It was actually kind of lame compared to the other acts.

Dog tricks.  They were pretty cute.

The trapeze.  This lady was strong.

And that's it for pictures!  We saw a lot more acts, but I put the camera away and just enjoyed myself.  I hope we can see more next year!

Warsaw and Family History

My Grandpa was drafted during WWII, like so many other men of his generation, and was sent off to Germany after some time at Fort Bening.  While he was gone, he wrote his parents a letter every day.  And I do mean every day.  There are hundreds of letters and my great-grandmother saved every one.  There are a few missing due to censure, but for the most part it's a complete diary of his experience.  My mom and my aunt have been scanning them to preserve them.  Last month they went to the Dimmitt's cabin in Warsaw, MO for a scanning party.  Two sisters, two scanners and a whole lot of letters.  My aunt invited the four of us down since Derek and Stephanie were going to be there as well.  Charlotte always has a blast playing with Derek, so we jumped at the chance.

My mom and Shirley made a lot of progress and I read a lot of them.  It was interesting reading them.  I never really knew my grandpa- he died from Parkinson's Disease when I was 7- so this gave me a window into who he was in a truly fascinating way.  The irony of it, though, was that he never talked about the war.  My grandma never really painted him as a veteran because she felt he wouldn't want to be remembered that way.  Despite that, though, the only chance I get to know him is through the letters he wrote while serving our country.  Anyway, while his daughters scanned, my daughters had a blast playing with their cousin and the puppies.  We had a great time.

Charlotte and Tanner.  She loves Tanner!

Tanner is the best babysitter.  He would not let the kiddos out of his sight!

Discovering a turtle

Audrey not so excited about sharing space with Toby.

Kid toy, dog toy, whatever.

Stephanie and I took Charlotte and Derek to the hatchery.  They played a little inside before heading out to fish.

Headed to the hatchery pond.  Only the little ones get to fish and they use hot dogs as bait.  It was hilarious watching these two carry out their poles.

Nothing was biting today.  :)

Double Rainbow!

On a very rainy Friday, we packed up to head out to Warsaw, MO to visit family at the Dimmitt's cabin, but first I needed to get a run in.  We decided I would run to Ted Drewes and Matt and the girls would pick me up there.  As I was running, I got rained on, but it was totally worth it when I saw not one, but two of the most beautiful, vibrant rainbows I had ever seen.  I wish these pictures did them justice!  Totally worth the wet run.  :)
My gold at the end of the rainbow.  :)

Even better gold.

Matt's gold.  :)

Little Picassos

I love watching the girls create and they love making a mess, so painting sounded like a fantastic idea.  Until the purple paint on the carpet, but I think Mommy was asking for that one.

Painting is so exciting!

It's been HOW long since I posted?

Oops.  Well, catch up time.  More for my benefit than yours.  Assuming there is a "you" out there anymore.  Ha!

These are some random pictures from one of our last visits out to KC.  It has been awhile!  The girls loved playing with grandpa!
