In case you hadn't heard, St. Louis and the rest of the county experienced a pretty darned oppressive heat wave this summer. We felt caged for a good period of time, but shortly after we came home from Colorado, the heat gave way to much cooler temperatures. We thought that would be a GREAT day to go the zoo. It was, but it seemed every other person in a three state radius had the exact same idea. We had to park at the upper Muny lot and hike our way to the zoo. Not a short walk, but we thankfully remembered both of our strollers this time.
Since we live so close and have a membership, we keep our trips fairly short so we don't run into many major meltdowns while there. This trip we decided to stick to the River's Edge. It usually gets bypassed for the big cats, apes, and bears, but Charlotte really wanted to see the elephants this trip. So we did!

 |
| The hippos from the top. Charlotte was not a fan. She was scared out of her mind. She still talks about how she likes the hippos, but not from the top, only through the big window. She cracks me up. |

| Big fish |

| Finally made it to the elephants! Do you see all those people? It was like that every where at the zoo. I have never seen so many people at the zoo before. It was crazy! |
 |
| This picture was taken just before the elephant relieved himself to the horror/delight of the younger zoo-goers. Both girls talked about the poop for days after and Audrey will still occasionally (and completely randomly) tell us, "Elephants poop big!" |

| Realizing that said metal insect is HOT from sitting in the sun. |
